A Few Tips for Buying a New Car

Buying a new car can be a costly business. Not only will you have to finance an unusually big purchase, but you will also have to take time to do careful research and possibly sell your own car. The latter could cost you as well because you’ll more than likely have to advertise with someone. If you’re looking to save money on your next car purchase, take a look below for some useful tips:

Set your budget

Setting your budget and sticking to it is absolutely essential. Give yourself a price and don’t go above it. If you see a second hand car at a price above your budget then try as hard as you can to haggle down the price. If you can’t get it below the budget, then don’t make the purchase and look for something else – there’s plenty of other deals out there! If you know a lot about cars then a used car auction can be a great place to get a bargain.

Research, research, research

If you know what model you make and where to get it (and you can afford it) then you don’t need to worry. In the more likely option that you’ll be buying a car that has been previously owned, then you seriously need to shop around. Take a look at websites or publications such as Autotrader, and take a look around a few used car dealerships. Don’t get sucked in by the sales patter either – make sure your patient and have satisfied a healthy amount of research before making a purchase.

Arranging finance

If you’re buying a new car you may well need to raise some extra cash in order to finance the purchase. One of the best ways to do this would be to shop around for personal loans. There are many suppliers in the UK, and they’re widely available from high street banks. Alliance and Leicester currently offer car loans of £7,500 to £15,000 from 7.4%.

Part exchange

Making a part exchange will mean you will be able to get rid of your old car against the price of another vehicle, which means you won’t have to sell it privately. Taking the latter option, however, will more than likely get you a better price. Make sure your car is in as good a condition as possible when you go to exchange it – just making sure that it is clean, as this could make a big difference on the price.

Insurance

Once you’ve got a new car, you’ll need to change your car insurance policy. This won’t necessarily mean you have to switch providers, but it’s worth shopping around to see if you can get a better quote for your new car.
